One of my favorite classic movies is The Sting (winner 1973 Academy Awards for Best Picture). It is a movie where Robert Redford and Paul Newman create a complex scam to swindle a con man. Back then “conning” money from someone was an elaborate process.
Today’s scams and cons are much easier and more frequent. The Beekeeper is a modern-day movie of how easy it is to con people out of their money. Note the Beekeeper is no “The Sting” in terms of quality of movie; but it does tell a good story of how modern-day technology con men trick people out of their savings and I like the redemption aspect of the movie with Jason Statham.
Protecting your assets from these modern-day criminals is hard. And homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover these losses. Being educated and diligent on these scams is your best protection.
Just remember the best course of action is to stop and not do ANYTHING. Hit the pause button. Talk to your friends and advisors to see if what they are asking is real. Nothing is as important as what the scammers are asking you for.
